Every activity at Calleva, whether you’re at camp, out in a kayak, or enjoying fresh food from Calleva’s farm store, helps to uphold our reputation for excellence.
Upholding Excellence in Every Calleva Activity
Calleva’s summers are filled with experiences for every member of the family but as the weather gets cooler and the leaves start to fall, it may seem hard to experience the world Calleva has to offer. However, there are countless opportunities to enjoy not just Calleva’s farm, but Calleva’s mission.
Explore Calleva’s River School: Fall and Spring Programs
If you found yourself on the river this summer, Calleva’s River School offers Fall and Spring programs for students of any level. Youth programming runs in September and October and then again in April and May, perfect for getting ready for the summer sessions.
For those no longer bound to the 9-month school year, the River School has options through October to get your river fix in. Slalom, boofing, Gorge trips, and more allow you to test the waters into something new or revisit an old favorite.

Reconnect with Nature through Adventures for Young Kids
For kids lucky enough to spend part of their summer in Calleva camps, heading back to class may lead to some growing pains. It can be hard to leave behind all their new friends and experiences in the outdoors, so giving them space to explore nature on their terms during the school year lets them reconnect to Calleva.
Farm and Forest Cubs is open to kids aged three through six not yet in full-time school. It allows them the freedom to experience nature while prioritizing social and emotional development.
The Nature Adventure program allows school age kids to enjoy the value of hands-on, real-life learning in the outdoors all year long. It offers a unique blend of Elementary Science, Art, Agricultural Education, and Outdoor Adventures, creating child-led experiences that emphasize inquiry-based education and experiential problem-solving.
This program encourages children to explore and learn through hands-on activities, fostering a deep connection with nature and enhancing their problem-solving skills in an engaging and interactive environment.

Continue the Journey: Calleva’s Horse Adventure Programs (CHAPs)
Campers who took part in horseback riding this Summer are welcome to take part in school year Calleva’s Horse Adventure Programs (CHAPs). The after-school Saddle Club is open to campers from 1st grade to middle school of all levels and abilities. Students will learn horsemanship, leading to self-confidence, responsibility, and empathy, all while giving them a new hobby and skill.
Lessons are taught in a group setting, providing a community, top-tier instructors, and fresh air for your equestrian. If your child wants more hands-on instruction or is younger, CHAPs also offers private lessons throughout the entire school year, perfect for those looking to level up their skills in a smaller environment.

Bringing Calleva Home: Nature Activities in Your Own Backyard
While the farm offers great activities for kids and families missing Calleva camp, there are also a multitude of ways to connect with nature in your own backyard or neighborhood. For younger children, it can be as easy as going on a walk and collecting as many different flowers as you come across.
You can also encourage your child to show you what they remember from their camp. Go on a family walk on the Canal and let them point to the plants they learned about in Growing Green, or about the waves they can identify from Surf Camp.
In the colder months when going outside to get the mail is a feat, try drawing what they’re excited to do at camp next summer or their dream campsite. If you get out of town, try to explore new trails with your camper and let them examine unfamiliar trees, flowers, bird songs, and plants (just maybe not poison ivy).
Year-Round Adventures: Staying Connected with Calleva
Calleva offers a wealth of year-round opportunities for families to stay connected with nature and continue the adventures they loved during the summer. Whether through seasonal programs like the River School and Horse Adventure Programs, or by exploring nature in your own backyard, Calleva’s commitment to experiential learning and outdoor exploration remains strong. As the seasons change, so do the ways to engage with Calleva, ensuring that the spirit of adventure and connection with nature can be enjoyed all year long.
