Fall Training
Get ready for big water paddling by training on the the Potomac! The end of the summer is just the beginning of Gauley Season. With heavy emphasis on play boating, we will put you in every circumstance to get ready for class III and IV whitewater. You will, for sure, test your roll and get the feel of paddling through strong, turbulent whitewater. Fall Training consists of 4 weeknight clinics and 4 Saturday workout sessions.
You choose a weeknight-Tuesday, Wednesday (now full), or Thursday! Featuring guest instructors, these weeknight clinics will challenge you philosophically, by asking you to think about how water and boat interact, physically, by putting you in big holes, and mentally, by pushing your comfort zone. Instructors this year are Bobby Miller, Matthew Hanlon, Steve-O McKone, Abby Holcombe, Michael Simpson, and Ian Hamilton! Weeknight classes are 5:30 – 7:30 pm, location will be determined based on river level and what the instructor’s lesson plan. Students will be notified of location through whats app.
Saturdays are 9-11 am, work-out style, meaning the whole Fall Training group will be practicing skills and training for fitness.
Participants who qualify will be invited on a FREE weekend trip to the Gauley. To qualify, you must have the skills and have completed a 16 hour Swift Water Rescue class in the last 2 years. You may drive to Summersville, WV Friday night or Saturday morning. The whole group will run the Lower together on Saturday. After a fun day on the river, we will get dinner in town, camp Saturday night and break into two groups for the following day. Those who are ready will be invited to run the Upper Gauley, others can have redemption… or a chance for more play on the Lower. Sunday we will have breakfast in camp and head out to the river, planning to take out mid afternoon and head back home.
Classes Start Sept 1 and meet one weeknight and Saturday Mornings for 4 weeks.
2026 Trips Dates: October 3 & 4, 10 & 11, 17 & 18.

Please register for the weeknight you wish to attend practice, and request a trip date. Participants should have a play boat or half slice boat for Fall Training weeknight classes. If you need to rent one send us a message.
