Embark on a journey beyond the classroom. Come as we unveil the top five reasons why Calleva’s Outdoor School Programs are a game-changer for both educators and students alike. From farm-to-table delights, to fostering coworker camaraderie through adventurous escapades, our programs offer a unique blend of experiential learning and rejuvenation.
Connect with your students on a deeper level, witness unexpected leadership roles, and discover hidden talents. On the other hand say goodbye to traditional teaching stress. Instead say hello to seasoned Calleva facilitators who take the reins, ensuring a refreshing and impactful outdoor experience for everyone involved.
5. THE FOOD
Our Chef cooks farm-to-table meals fresh each day. As a result he is perhaps Calleva’s most adored, yet least seen staff member. So don’t forget to ask what ingredients of each meal are grown on site on our sustainable farm! And if you’re incredibly lucky, you may just get to try Flash’s Famous Cookies (trust us, they’re legit!)

4. COWORKER CAMARADERIE
Teachers are typically isolated in their classrooms. They crave opportunities to interact with their coworkers outside of a stuffy faculty meeting. Can you imagine seeing your vice principal screaming as she leaps off the zip-line platform?
Above all we offer powerful shared experiences for the adult chaperones alongside their students. Looking for a fun way to kick off the school year? Encourage your school to book a team building day just for the faculty during your orientation!
3. CONNECT WITH YOUR STUDENTS
Any teacher can tell you how important it is to have solid relationships. As a result you can leverage these relationships when things get tough throughout the school year. So take this is your opportunity to chat one-on-one with the students, be vulnerable in front of them, and have a chance to co-exist in the outdoors without having to watch the clock, enforce dress code, or remind students to use their indoor voices.
Calleva field trips can offer some enlightening insights. For instance, the quiet wallflower who take a leadership role on a challenge course element. Alternatively the outgoing jock has a crippling fear of heights. Perhaps the school drama lead has a passion and talent for steering whitewater rafts. Observe how students interact with each other in a less structured environment. Simultaneously take pride in what excellent human beings you are helping to shape.

2. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING HAS HUGE PAYOUTS
Instead of spending hours planning a great lesson, only to have your students completely forget the content a few short weeks afterwards, step into an immersive learning experience. Indeed a powerful outdoor experience is the gift that keeps giving! So give your students an experience that you can reference all year long. Bridge the gap between theory and practice, and produce long-term mindset changes. Additionally, show kids, instead of telling them, how important teamwork is to achieving a task.
1. IT’S LIKE A PAID DAY OFF!
No papers to grade, no lessons to plan. Instead teachers can relax and let the seasoned Calleva facilitators plan and run activities. An impactful day of outdoor learning isn’t just beneficial for students, it helps reenergize teachers. Above all we know that nobody deserves a break more than teachers!

Sarah Reschovsky
School Program Director
Sarah joined the Calleva team around 2011, but has been around Calleva since she was 10 years old being a tag-along younger sister to camp. “I remember getting picked up for my first ever day of camp by Matt Markoff in a van called “The Beast” that had seats that weren’t bolted to the bottom of the van. We would slide forward every time the vehicle stopped…. and I remember thinking at that moment that Calleva was the funnest place in the world!”
Sarah loves the Calleva community, the can-do spirit of the whole gang, and how no day is ever boring at Calleva. Her favorite Calleva activities are kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, adventure racing, and generally any activity that involves being active outdoors. Sarah loves how her role allows her to work with schools and scheme new ways to get kids learning outdoors. As a former math teacher, she knows how important it is for students to get out of the classroom and loves being able to help facilitate that!
