Our always popular Adventure Island Camp without the overnight! Last summer we created an incredible new Island experience exclusively for 9-12 year olds with exciting new activities such as survival skills, creeking, island crafts alongside some of our ‘old favorites’ like rapid swimming and ‘King of the Log’! Paddling out to the island in our exclusive Calleva ‘war’ canoes we will spend our days in and out of the water.
Each day campers rotate through half-day activities that relate to the environment around them and the outdoor activities that Calleva provides. Adventure Island is our Island of Fun and here is a place where campers can have lots of OUTDOOR FUN out and around the Potomac River. Most activites start and end with a ride to the island in our “war canoes.”
Canoe Adventures: The best way to navigate from maryland to island to island to virginia to maryland is with a Canoe. Campers can feel confident and learn to work together while navigating to each location.
Ropes Course (High): Designed for growth of the individual through understanding and expanding our own personal comfort zones. Special attention to group encouragment.
Rapids & Swings: Always need some time to swim in the river, learn how to go down rapids, and of course when to let go of the rope and land in the water! Do I need to say more than, “King of the Log”!!!! A favorite game that leads to a laundry list of fun water shenanigans, it would be unthinkable to go out to the islands without some time set aside for some Water Team Challenges!
Island Nature Crafts: A beautiful place like the Potomac need to be captured in our eyes and minds, and communicated in a variety of art projects. Whether or not we use the resources around the islands, or concepts that are designed to unlock our perspectives, we are very excited to take ART at Calleva to the next level.
River Ecology: When designing a camp around our ever popular Adventure Island Camp, we also recognized the importance of bringing our River Eco Adventure Camp to the Island… So the best classes from River Eco will be translated into this new block at Island Day Camp.
Ropes Course (Low): Fun and challenging team games that bring the group together as a team, and help individuals better know others and themselves.
Fishing:There are just too many great fishing holes to not cast a line in, and learn about fish and the sport. This catch & release class will have campers tromping all over and looking in the water.
Kayak Adventures: When your home is an island… you definitely need to know how to paddle. These one person sit-on-tops are the perfect watercraft to shoot down some of the beginner rapids that surround our islands.
Island Games: Treasure hunts and land navigational games for the individual and the group. Games that encourage exploration and land travel.
Wilderness Survival Skills: Learn to build shelters, build fires and cook over the fire. A fun and exciting way of using your hands and minds to build and create.
Rain Plan: We are aware that there are concerns regarding Rain & Storms at camp. For any programs that we can continue to do the activities with happy campers we will do so. If for any reason the rain or storm has us stop the activity, then all groups have an alternative plan and location under cover. For adverse weather (such as severe storms), all activities have nearby shelters or use Calleva bus as a temporary shelter.
Special Consideration: Island Day Camp does not have an overnight.
