Coopers Rock, WV, Red River Gorge Area, Muir Valley Region.
When we think about rock climbing in the summer the last place we would think to head is south, but after 4 years of being down at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. “The Red” offers world class rock climbing, amazing camping, and a plethora of summer holes. This week of rock climbing is the perfect opportunity for campers to make the transition from Top Rope climbing to Sport Lead climbing. The area offers a huge variety in climbing ratings making it a perfect place to practice lead climbing on easier routes. Campers will learn advanced knot tying, climbing techniques, and safe climbing practices. By the end of the week campers will be “flashing” routes like the pros. Although the week is dedicated to climbing we can never turn down a good swimming hole to cool off and soak our sore muscles. This trip is a bucket list must for any true rock climber.
This trip is designed for intermediate to advanced climbers. Campers should be comfortable with climbing at a 5.6 Top Rope level, have belay experience, and are ready to challenge themselves.
