Rafting Camp
CoEd Ages 9-15
Weeks 2-10*

Rafting Adventure Camp

There are two themes in Rafting Camp, FUN and TEAMWORK. As soon as we arrive at the put-in, campers will work together to get down to the river. Along the way, Rafters will learn about rapid formation, paddling techniques, and river hazards while having fun on the river. By weeks end, campers will have had the opportunity to guide and lead a raft, rapid swim, and challenge a Calleva staff to a “king of the raft” contest. The rafting overnight location will depend on the ages and skills of each group as well as river levels. No matter the location, campers will get to put their skills to the test and see how much fun they can have together.

Rafting camp usually has two different groups, divided by age. The difference between the two groups will be their overnight location: the older campers typically go to the Lower Yough, which requires participants to be 12 years old.  *Calleva will try to accommodate requests to keep friends and family member together, but please be aware that this is not always possible.

Rafting Adventure Camp has a Thursday Overnight.
* There will be only one rafting group weeks 2, 5, 6 & 10.

Take It To The Next Level:

The 411…

Monday: Introduction to gear, paddle strokes and river
Tuesday: River reading, finding the perfect line
Wednesday: River safety, raft guiding
Thursday/Friday (Overnight): River running

Locations: Mather Gorge, Little Falls, Shenandoah River, Cheat River, Lower Yough

**Depending on water levels some overnight locations may require our group to use rivers in which we do not have a permit. If this is the case, we will ask campers to sign additional waivers for other outfitters. Our staff will still be in the raft along with other outfitter staff.

Optional overnight GearBag to purchase:  Calleva is offering campers the option to purchase a GearBag during checkout which includes all the camping gear you will need for your overnight. These duffle bags come home with your camper on the bus before the overnight so it can be packed with personal clothes and toiletries!

Rain/Storm Plan: We are aware that there are concerns regarding Rain & Storms at camp. All Calleva activities take place outdoors, and sometimes the weather requires a change in itinerary. If for any reason, severe rain or storm requires us to stop a group’s activity, the Instructor & Head Counselor for that group will activate their pre-planned alternate activity. Each group has its own alternative plan, which includes a safe location under cover. For adverse weather (such as severe storms), groups have access to nearby temporary shelters or can use Calleva bus as a temporary shelter. We will continue with outdoor activities as long as it’s possible to be safe and with happy campers.
