Rafting Adventure Camp
Monday: Introduction to gear, paddle strokes and river
Tuesday: River reading, finding the perfect line
Wednesday: River safety, raft guiding
Thursday/Friday (Overnight): River running
Mather Gorge, Little Falls, Shenandoah River, Cheat River, Lower Yough
There are two themes in Rafting Camp, FUN and TEAMWORK. As soon as we arrive at the put in campers will have to work together to get down the river. Along the way the rafters will learn about rapid formation, paddling techniques, and river hazards while having fun on the river. By weeks end campers will have had the opportunity to guide and lead a raft, rapid swim, and challenge a Calleva staff to “king of the raft”. The rafting overnight location will depend on age, skill, and river levels. No matter the location, the campers will get to put their skills to the test and see how much fun they can have together.
Rafting camp typically has two different groups. Each group is divided by age. The only different between the two groups will be the overnight location, as the older kids typically go to the Lower Yough which requires participants to be 12 years old.
