MD Start and End of Summer Adventures Camp

Start summer off right or keep the summer fun going until school starts with a variety of Calleva’s BEST activities!
Campers will rotate through different daily activities including: rafting, duckying (inflatable, sit-on-top kayaks), kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, rock climbing, and challenge course. The actual schedule of activities will be determined as we near the final weeks of camp. Schedules and activities depend on a variety of factors including staffing, equipment availability, water levels, and group dynamics.
  • $720/week
  • This camp does NOT have an overnight
  • Available weeks 1, 2, 11, 12, and 13

VA Teen Extreme Sampler (Ages 12-15)

VA Teen Extreme Sampler Camp — 2-week sessions available!
Virginia’s Teen Sampler camp is the perfect way to introduce your teen to outdoor adventure sports. Set on Calleva’s campus at Madeira School, our two-week sampler format gives teens experience with rafting, stand-up paddleboarding, rock climbing, building survival skills in camper vs. wild, and getting on the river to island hop and explore. They’ll get to do multiple days of most activities, building skills and growing more confident as they take on new adventures never before seen in Teen Sampler Camp!

MD Cubs (Ages 4-5)

MD Cubs Camp
Calleva Cubs experience a wide variety of outdoor adventures that help build enthusiasm and confidence to try new things as well as a sense of teamwork and appreciation for the natural world. Cubs will enjoy a lightly structured day, including exploration, story time, singing, and free time to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The Cubs are an extension of Calleva’s fall & spring Farm & Forest Cubs, which adopts the “Forest School” philosophy originating in Scandinavia in the 1950s. We believe in the power of purposeful play in the outdoors as a way for young children to build confidence, experience nature, and engage in group learning.

VA Kayaking (Ages 9-15)

VA Kayaking Camp

  • $720/week
  • This Camp does NOT have an Overnight
  • Available weeks 3-11
  • Ages 9-15 / Open to all skill levels, but some experience in a kayak (even on flatwater) is recommended
  • Transportation is available to/from The Madeira School
  • This camp is based at the Madeira School, but may travel to other sites nearby including

MD Riley’s Water Sampler (Ages 8-12)

MD Riley’s Water Sampler Camp
Riley’s Water Sampler Camp is an introduction to 5 core Calleva activities:

  • Duckies (inflatable kayaks)
  • Stand-Up Paddleboarding
  • Creek Exploration
  • Adventure Island
  • Canoeing.

All take place at Riley’s Lock, so campers experience many of our favorite watersports while exploring sections of the C&O Canal and Potomac River.

VA Explorers (Ages 6-9)

VA Explorers Camp

Virginia’s Explorers camp offers a fantastic introduction to all things outdoors at our magical, 200+ acre location in Great Falls, VA: Camp Fraser.

Each day, campers will participate in a variety of activities while exploring the wetlands and woods along the Potomac River. Camp Fraser is an deal for ages 6-9 since the water is shallow and calm:

  1. with lots of space to roam & explore streams and forest
  2. ideal water access for young beginners — wadable depth, slow moving
  3. easy access to several small islands

Calleva’s Explorer itineraries are designed with a variety of activities throughout the day, aiming to build campers confidence and competence in the outdoors. Our mission is to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of wonder-FULL outdoor adventuring!

MD Explorers (Ages 6-9)

MD Explorers Camp
Calleva Farm provides a healthy mix of adventure, agriculture, and eco-awareness, so our Explorers are fully immersed in sweat and dirt every day. And it’s pure AWESOMENESS! From sharpening their archery skills to learning about our farm animals, expect each day’s all-outdoors itinerary to be focused on engaging activities, friends, and games.

The Explorers “Great Heights” theme has an OPTIONAL ADD-ON overnight at the Calleva Farm. – See below for details.*
  • $680/week
  • Availability:
    • Explorers Great Heights – Weeks 1, 3-9 | *NEW for GREAT HEIGHTS ONLY! Add an exciting Thursday overnight campout — Available weeks 5-8 (add’l $80). Limited to 12 campers (ages 8-9 ONLY).*
    • Explorers Critters and Creatures – Weeks 2, 4-10
    • Explorers Quest – Weeks 2-3 and 5-11
    • End-of-Summer Explorers – Weeks 12-13
      • Explorers End of Summer will start and end their days at RILEY’S LOCK (not the Calleva Farm) and will travel to the farm and other locations from there!
      • Explorers who attend this program will share buses with our Riley’s Lock campers OR can be dropped off/picked up at Riley’s Lock.
  • Ages 6-9
  • Farm Lunches are available (+$65)
  • Transportation is available to/from Calleva Farm (or Riley’s Lock for weeks 12-13)
  • 2026 MD Explorers Schedule (by theme/group)

 

Explorer parents will select from the following themes at the time of their registration:

  1. Great Heights highlights climbing & high ropes experiences, so these Explorers get their feet off the ground every day
  2. Critters & Creatures provides touchpoints with all of our farm animals, including the horses, as these Explorers rotate through a variety of agri-eco adventures
  3. Quest is a week of exploration activities, featuring map reading, “balance biking,” geo caching, and other woods-oriented adventures.

 

Each theme follows the framework for Calleva’s classic sampler-style rotation: Council gathering in the morning and afternoon, with the day spent experimenting with kayaking, archery, creek play, theme activities, and more!

  • Coming for multiple weeks? Try each theme so your Explorer can keep it fresh!
  • Friend requests are still possible, BUT THEY CAN ONLY BE HONORED WITHIN a theme.
  • We are NOT ABLE TO SWITCH campers out of their theme on-demand because we plan and staff themes based on a set capacity determined for January registration.

 

New for 2026! Register for all 3 themes before February 1, and your Explorer will receive a specialty Farm Explorers Sweatshirt. On Feb 1, eligible campers will receive an email request for sizing information and we will mail your sweatshirt in the Spring!
