Beginner Instruction

FOR ADULT PADDLERS

Our beginner kayaking lessons are structured into SIX progressive lessons, giving you all the skills you need to feel confident and competent on the river. Classes are held at River School House, Lock 6, or Anglers Inn, minutes from DC. Our program travels so that we can utilize the best section of river for the class goals.

  • Zero to Hero: Month-long program, including all six river classes, three rolling classes, and Tuesday night Open Practice! 33 hours of instruction time, plus free open practice.
  • Level 1: Introduction
  • Level 2: Foundations
  • Level 3: Maneuvers
  • Level 4: River Running
  • Level 5: Rescue Essentials
  • Level 6: Mather Gorge Trip

Pool Rolling: November to April, learn to roll when it’s cold– in an indoor pool!

Rolling on the River: Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons in summer.

Open Practice: Tuesday evenings at Lock 6, 6:15-8:15 pm. $20, Registration is required.
