Beginner Instruction
FOR ADULT PADDLERS
Our beginner kayaking river classes are structured into SIX progressive lessons, giving you all the skills you need to feel confident and competent on the river. Classes are held at River School House, Lock 6, Anglers inn, or new for 2021 Columbia Island Marina.
- Level 1: Introduction
- Level 2: Foundations
- Level 3: Maneuvers
- Level 4: River Running
- Level 5: Rescue Essentials
- Level 6: Mather Gorge Trip
Zero to Hero: Month-long program, including all six river classes, three rolling classes, and Tuesday night Open Practice! 28 hours of instruction time, plus free open practice.
Rolling on the River: Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons in summer.
Pool Rolling: November to April, learn to roll when it’s cold– in an indoor pool!
Open Practice: Tuesday evenings at Lock 6, 6:15-8:15 pm. $20, Registration is required.

Intermediate Kayaking
FOR ADULT PADDLERS
Intermediate paddlers have a solid flat water roll, an emerging whitewater roll, and some class III whitewater experience. Students are expected to have their own boat and equipment.
Winter Workout series: Sign up for this 8 class intensive focused on keeping you in shape through the winter and building skills through slalom, attaining, downriver, and speciality clinics.
Winter Slalom: Workouts throughout the winter focused on proper technique to make your paddling more efficient and effective.
Class 3 Training: 29 hours of instruction
Advanced Maneuvers (Paddling for Efficiency)
Open Rolling: Practice your roll during the winter in an indoor pool!
Open Practice: Lock 6 on Tuesday evenings.
Lower Youth Trips: Join us on the Lower Yough the last weekend of every month

Advanced
Advanced paddlers have a solid whitewater roll and some experience on class IV rivers. We know you often serve as trip leaders with groups and friends. Work with us to expand these skills, paddle with a thriving community, and discover new rivers.
