Calleva Beekeeping

The Calleva farm is home to more than just horses, cows, and chickens. We also have Bees! Three years ago our Calleva staff created a beekeeping program on our farm, not just to to pollinate our beautiful garden and provide us with honey, but also to add to our environmental and agricultural education programs. Students have had the opportunity to come out to the farm and inspect our educational hive that is full of great photos and info, as we’ll as doing Q&A sessions with our resident beekeeper. Last year Growing Green had the chance to assist with our honey harvest where they helped scrape the wax cappings off and spun the frames in the honey extractor. Each camper took home a jar to share with their family, and the rest was either used for Calleva’s Dirty Dinners  or is available for sale in our NEW Calleva Farm Store. Stop by to pick up a jar of some of the best local honey around!

We have expanded our beekeeping programs to help educate everyone that is interested in keeping bees, not just our campers. Join us this spring/summer for one of our many classes and learn how you can start keeping bees in your very own backyard.
