The core of Calleva’s River School instructors come from our own programs. Our staff is made up of all types of paddlers, from competitive athletes, to Class V boaters, to great instructors who paddle class III and remember what it feels like to be a beginner. Many of our instructors are parents, bringing their special brand of patience to each class. All are actively engaged in communicating their love of nature, the sport and rivers to their students.
As one student remarked,
“Every single one of your staff members that I have had the honor to be instructed by is full of knowledge, fun, laughter, making people feel safe and they always have me leaving the river with a smile on my face!!!”
Minimum certification for our instructors is the American Canoe Association (ACA) Whitewater Instructor certification, First Aid, and CPR. Those who lead our trips and teach intermediate courses also have ACA Advanced Whitewater certification or an equivalent level of trip leading experience. Our instructors are encouraged to expand their knowledge and experience by attending staff training sessions, events like the Whitewater Symposium and the ACA National Conference, and adventure on their own whenever they get the chance.
If you are interested in joining the Calleva’s River School team of instructors, please email a resume. River School is a work place continues to be a source of white water adventure for our staff who love to participate in our many programs and trips. Our instructors are encouraged to join in on any class they are interested in. Invitations to expert level trips, held at least once a year, are another benefit of teaching with us.
