About Surf CLS: Live the surfer life, talk the surfer talk, and surf the best breaks Delaware has to offer! This program gives the student a strong foundation for surfering greatness. Our Delaware surfers camp at Cape Henolopen State Park, near Lewis, where the long shoreline caters to surfers of all abilities. Learn surf etiquette, how to read the break and ocean currents and basic water safety. We will travel to other local surf spots such as Indian River and Assateague Island to catch different types of waves. On land, we'll join the surfrider Foundation for beach cleanups and dune restoration projects. We will also have the great opportunity to meet a board shaper and see the process that goes into making our beloved boards. Our last night we'll celebrate our achievements and challenge our arcade skills at the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk.

2010 DELAWARE ITINERARY:

  • Monday: Meet at Riley's Lock at 8am. Depart for Indian River Inlet. Upon arrival set up camp and spend sometime in the water or playing games on the beach. Around our campfire we will discuss the plan for the week.

  • Tuesday: Hit the beach early for some morning stretching and land surf lesson. In the afternoon we will work on standing up on our boards and riding waves.
  • Wednesday: We will get up early and head to Assateague Island for the day. In the morning we will continue to work on our surfing skills. As well as learning more surfing techniques we will learn about wave dynamics and reading the waves we ride. After our long day on the beach we will stop off at a surf board shapers shop to see how boards are designed and made.
  • Thursday: Today we will continue to learn more about reading the waves and controlling our boards while on the wave at Naval Jetties. In the afternoon we will be giving back to the beaches we love by participating in a beach clean up for a few hours. The evening will be spent walking the boardwalk playing games.
  • Friday: Every Friday morning brings our weekly surfing competition. The staff will be the Judges and may the best surfer win. After lunch we will hit the road and drive back to Riley's Lock for a 6pm pickup.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Rain does not deter surfing, but if in case of a flat spell or the waves being just too big for the kids there are numerous activities around the area. Endless beach games, Ocean City boardwalk, bike rentals, surf movies, fishing, water parks
