About Canoeing CLS: Henry David Thoreau once said, "Everyone must believe in something. I believe I'll go canoeing?" With these words as our guide we are heading into the Adirondacks for a week of canoeing, hiking, beautiful views, and a general adventure. The Adirondack Park is a forever wilderness, so we are going to take full advantage of this. We will start by learning the basics of canoeing techinques, backcountry camping, Leave No Trace (LNT) ethics, and orienteering. With our new skills we will be see the park by both land and water. We will spend time exploring the natural waterways on lakes and streams. Once we reach of destination by water we will trade our paddles for our backpacks and hike back into the woods to see the views from the mountain tops. This trip is designed to gain experience in many different types of backcountry travel. This course will teach students self-sufficent camping, LNT awareness, proficiency in canoeing, and a new found sense for adventure. Over our week long trip students will feel confident like Lewis or Clark exploring true wilderness.
