About Mountain Biking CLS: The original CLS trip just got better with classic rides like Plantation Trail and Dobbin House plus new trails and adventures on Spruce Knob and Judy Springs. This week will combine some of the best riding the east coast has to offer. We will head to West Virginia's Davis County to ride some unbelievable single track. As well as riding epic singletrack we will also ride some of the gnarliest technical trails West Virginia has to offer. For this trip we have the perfect camping location along the Blackwater River with beautiful campsites and swimming right out of the backdoor of our tents. Students will learn riding riding techniques, map reading skills, and basic bike maintance skills. This trip is designed for the rider who wants to take the next step from Activity Camp Mountain Biking to the bigger arena of West Virginia. This trip is a great stepping stone to its big sister, the Mountain Bike Utah CLS trip.

2010 WEST VIRGINIA ITINERARY:

  • Monday: Meet at Riley's Lock 8 am. Drive to Blackwater Falls State Park (Davis WV). Bike Dobbin House.  Once you cross the bridge after the dam, things become moderately rocky and a lot more fun. Gravel/rocky area, remnants of an old strip mine and sweet drops.  Dobbi n House Trail makes a good warm-up for other trails such as Plantation, Lindy Run, or the Fire Road.
  • Tuesday: Bike - Plantation Trail.  Plantation Trail has been hailed as one of the gnarliest trails in WV or maybe even the East Coast. The trail will test all of our mountain biking skills like creek crossings, log hopping, mud bogs, and steep ups and downs. This trail will help prepare us for the rest of the week.
  • Wednesday: Bike - Davis County Race Course.  In 2005 Davis, WV was a stop on the WV pro Mountain Bike circuit. For the race the riders in Davis put together an amazing race course. We will have the great opportunity to ride this trail which leaves from our campsite. The trail covers many different types of terrain include the famous moon rock! After our ride we will drive to Spruce Knob.
  • Thursday: Bike - Spruce Knob  We will be heading to the highest point in West Virginia to start our ride. From there, there is really only one place to go down! We will be riding miles of single track, rock gardens, and creek crossings. Along the way we will stop and eat blueberries to give us the fuel we need to finish out the ride.
  • Friday: Catch a trail along Rt. 68 before heading home.

*This is a rough itinerary, actual locations are subject to change depending on weather conditions, skill levels, and group dynamics. Final itinerary is updated in office.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: We highly recommend some experience on single track, and a week of heavy biking prior to the High Adventure for some conditioning. Attending a Calleva Mountain Biking Camp week will also help in getting you ready for this great week of two wheeled adventures.
