2010 HORSEBACK RIDING
Horseback Riding takes place 1.5 miles up the road at our Seneca Rd Riding Barn. During the school year this is home to our Riding Birthday Parties and Saturday Club and a great environment for horse introduction. The facility includes a beginner trail ride, dressage arena and stables w/ covered craft room and classroom. Under great supervision, Explorers will be introduced to the wonderful world of horses and have the opportunity to ride and familiarize themselves with the sport. We feel very strongly about the benefits of introducing children to animals and getting them comfortable with the care and handling of these large animals. The week is set up so Explorers come back for a second day of riding. The benefit to this approach is so the lessons can go beyond the initial introduction, and a deeper connection can be made.
All explorers do all activities, unless for health reasons Jenny continues to dominate the hearts of our campers with the ever so strong Riding program. Not only did campers learn how to be safe and comfortable around these beautiful animals, but they learned how to ride! Instruction was blended with all the right games and only half a group was given the class. The other half flip-flops Horseback Riding and participates in Archery with life-long camper and Explorer Director Emily Layman. We will do this again because it allows for better ratios and increased supervision.
Daily NeedsList: Lunch in ziplock bag, Bathing suit, Towel, Water shoes, Water bottle, Sunscreen and Hat!
Skill awards and the weekly themes are added to this popular activity. Counselors recognize the importance of actual time on the horse and build a program that takes adventage of horse to camper ratio and supported activities. Yee Haw!
