2010 Woodland Adventures
Woodland Adventures: This is Land-Based, and all campers participate in a variety of outdoor skills based activities! Campers travel around the Riley's Lock area on various scavenger, treasure, and staff hunts. Explore the nooks and crannies of our outdoor neighborhood. A visit to the old Stone Mill will bring stories and imaginations to life, while a trek down the canal is a walk through time. With so many places to visit, and games up our sleeves, this program is a great chance for the group to bond, and the counselor to encourage the campers to play and create together. Campers learn about the river, do some service, and feel connected to their natural environment. Activity also include Geo-caching.
All explorers do all activities, unless for health reasons. The campers will be on the trails and in the woods of our Headquarters at Riley's Lock. Not only do we visit many natural resources, but historically significant places and buildings. Understand the workings of the canal, life on the C&O and all the greta places to play along the Park.
Daily NeedsList: Lunch in ziplock bag, Bathing suit, Towel, Water shoes, Water bottle, Sunscreen and Hat!
Safety is our priority. Our staff recognizes the potential hazards involved in this activity, and has selected successful activities and activity locations. Campers will be in the woods and many of the neighboring trails that neighbor the C&O Canal. Creating smaller boundaries and structured games. Poison Ivy and Ticks are a concern that we will be addressing.
