2010 CLIMBING

Climbing: As babies we tried climbing out of our crib, as toddlers we climbed trees, and as Explorers we climb Calleva's 30' portable climbing wall. The 3 faces offer up a variety of routes from pitch angle, hold sizes, and route difficulty with 4 belay ropes/routes. Up to 4 persons can climb on the wall at a time and each climber is belayed by our staff who coaches and instructs the camper up the wall. This is sure to get the Explorers pushing themselves, and giving them a sense of accomplishment. Each time up at the climb gives our staff a chance to encourage and praise our campers as they scale the skill awards as well as the wall. Last year as campers waited, dance parties ensued - what will happen this year?

All explorers do all activities, unless for health reasons. This Year, we are expanding the portable ropes course elements for even more options. Waiting campers will get to work through low elements and climbers will have something additional to climb. Every year we work on new ways to expand the experience and increase comprehension and enjoyment.  Campers are given a chance to continue to push themselves and new challenges are created daily for the camper.  Staff are aware of the challenges and difficulties for young children to face in front of their peers and special consideration is taken to create a positive environment for children to struggle and succeed.

Daily NeedsList: Lunch in ziplock bag, Bathing suit, Towel, Water shoes, Water bottle, Sunscreen and Hat!

Safety is our #1 priority and belayers are certified and trained. All campers are in age/weight appropriate harnesses and helmet and are tied into the rope before they climb. Climbing wall is raised and lowered everyday.  Ropes are certified, inspected and kept out of the elements.
