ABOUT CLIMBING: Climbing programs enjoy a rich blend of individual and partnered success. The process is not just about the climb itself, but the assisting of fellow campers, whether by assisted belay, encouragement, or the multitude of positive instruction opportunities. The climbing alone is something to write home about, everyday a variety of climbs are set up for campers to challenge themselves on. The options of climbs in the Metropolitan Area give campers the ability to try out numerous climbing styles, practice different techniques, and experience diverse climbing environments. All along the Potomac River are sets of unique crags, and Calleva not only travels to the popular, but to the remote. We encourage campers to push themselves and others in a positive light, and therefore demand the Instructor work hard to quench their climbing thirst. If it rains, then Calleva Campers have an amazing indoor climbing wall to continue their education. The wall was designed with every type of climbing style made available for instruction. But we are an outdoors camp, and it's the real rock that our campers love. Each day a couple campers get to go with the Instructor to set up the climbs, so they develop an understanding of the anchors that hold them, learn the equipment and its capabilities to build their conf idence. Campers are allowed to Belay (always with a back-up), but take responsibilities to complete the education of climbing, and get a well rounded experience of the sport. Campers can also develop at the ir own speed. Different climbs are set at a variety of difficulty to give everyone a challenge. Many campers stay in their climbing camps, because week after week they can hone their skills, progress through the skill cards, and continue their growth in the sport.

Participants may bring their own gear, but gear must first be inspected by Instructor.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Climbing weeks are separated into 2 levels. These groups may be split in a variety of ways: Skill, Age, & Group Numbers. We believe, like all our activity camps, camper to staff ratios are perfect for individual attention and individual skill development can be obtained in all programs. There is also a series of skill cards that each camper can work on at their own speed. Campers are encouraged to work on skill cards, but not forced - if they want to just climb and have a good time - we can do that! Overnights switch week to week depending on Instructor and group decisions made that week and campers are notified with a note home on Wednesday.

KEY POINT: All campers and staff hooked into the rope must have proper climbing equipment checked and secured (including helmet).
