INSTRUCTORS & HEADS

Adventure Island Instructor 2:

Nora Vogel. About me..."By this summer I'll have finished my sophomore year at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and I'm doing an interdisciplinary major combining bio, social science, and philosophy. I'm passionate about fighting climate change through energy solutions and just completed a semester-long project on wind power. To complete my investigations of wind, I'm an officer on our sailing team. I love playing in boats, biking, drawing, skiing, and being outside in every kind of weather. I've spent my summers at Calleva since I was a wee little camper and each summer has been a new adventure.

Climbing Instructor 1:

Dave Harding About me... "Brokeback is excited for another summer at Calleva. He came to Calleva in the fall of 07' after an injury worthy of a great nickname, and hasn't wanted to leave since. Brokeback has a real passion for the outdoors, and it's something that he wants to share with everyone. He is a certified rock climbing instructor, and when not at the crags he can be found with the Calleva River School out for a paddle. His interests include Climbing, Kayaking, Skiing, Backpacking, Canyoneering and of course late night Slack Lining in the Barn. Make sure to check out the CLS page about his new program, Canyoneering Utah!"

KAYAKING Instructor 1:

Jeff "Pag" Girts. About me..."I pretty much was raised here at calleva. As a kid i tagged along on a lot of the Markoffs adventures. During my high school years i started interning with them and learned a lot about how to run different programs in each season. i now finally got an instructor position and am ready to run my own program. ive developed a lot of outdoor skills and want to share them with all the kids in maryland... and teach them to shred the NARRR!!

Backpacking:

Fred Barton About me... "This is my seventh year working with Calleva and I'm as excited as ever! Having just acquired my BA from Dickinson College, I can't wait to spend the summer backpacking, geocaching, paddling, biking, and generally being in the outdoors. My goal this summer is to make sure that backpacking maintins its spot as the best activity at Calleva. Maybe this year we'll even cross a few stream's...Seeya on the trail and river!"

SAILING Instructor 1:

Rafi Norberg. About me..."I am so pumped to spend another summer at Calleva! I can't think of a better way to spend my time than sailing all day. I'm a sophomore at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia studying Psychology with a possible double major in History. My goals for summer are simple: get wet, have fun and have mac & cheese on an overnight. The first two will be simple but the last one might take a little bit of haggling with old man Markoff. Finally, this summer will be another golden oppertunity for the greatest tribe on the face of the earth VELLACA to once again dominate the tribal competitions.

Canoeing:

Tom Swartz About me... "Tom Swartz has been canoeing every summer for as long as he can remember. Along with being a camper at a canoe tripping camp in Canada for four years, he was a camper at Calleva for several years and returns for his fourth year as staff. He will return this summer from Switzerland where he has been studying French before returning to the States to attend university this fall. He is Ontario Recreational Canoe Association moving water level 1A certified"
